March 6, 2023

On March 5, 2023, lecturers and foreign students of the Ala-Too International University took part in a parade dedicated to the White Kalpak Day on the Ala-Too Square.

Ak kalpak is a traditional headdress of Kyrgyz men, which has a deep sacred meaning. This holiday has been celebrated in the country since 2011. Kalpak unites representatives of different nationalities in the country. Muhammad Umar, a student of AIU, noted the importance of this holiday during an interview with the Ala-Too 24 information channel:

“We know that kalpak is a national headdress. To be closer to the locals, respecting Kyrgyz traditions, we take part in this holiday, wearing a white kalpak.”

The event was held with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Information and Sports and the State Commission for Religious Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic.
